Will drafting
Why write a Will?
Ensuring that you have a properly drafted Will is one of the most important things that you can do for you and your loved ones, yet it is often overlooked. Making a Will ensures that your final wishes are made clear. Having a Will in place should minimise any further stress for those close to you at an already difficult time.
Some of the reasons why you should ensure that you write a Will include:
You can decide who will be responsible for dealing with your estate (your Executors)
You can specify your funeral wishes to make the process simpler for your family
You can nominate guardians to look after your children or dependents
You can pass on specific gifts, such as property or possessions to your chosen individuals or organisations
You can make provision for pets
You can take steps to protect your family home
You can direct where and how your residuary estate is to pass
You may be able to minimise Inheritance tax
What if I do not write a Will?
If you pass away before writing a Will, then everything you leave behind will be divided according to the rules of intestacy. In essence, this means that your estate will be divided amongst your closest surviving relatives and not based on your personal wishes. The intestacy rules can produce unexpected results and your loved ones, friends or charities may not benefit as you perhaps intended. This could cause unnecessary complications and stress during an emotional time.
